HOW TO RECOVER A GMAIL PASSWORD

We all have a lot of passwords to keep track of these days, and few are as important as your Gmail password. If you've forgotten your Gmail password, Google provides several options for recovering it. If you've associated a phone number or alternate email address with your account, Google can quickly reset your password for you. If you don't have any other alternates, Google can attempt to verify your identity and recover your account.
Method One of Three:
Using the Account Recovery Page
Visit the Google Account Recovery page. If you can't remember your password, and you have a phone number or alternate email address associated with your account, Google can send you a link to a password reset page. If you don't have either of these associated with your account, see the next method.
Visit google.com/accounts/recovery/ to start the process.
Alternatively, load the Gmail page and click the "Need help?" link underneath the login box.
Select "I don't know my password". Enter the Google account email that you are trying to recover. If you can't remember your username, select that option instead. Click the "Continue" button.
Click "I don't know" or enter your last known password. Entering your last known password can help the recovery process, but isn't required to retrieve your account.
Choose your recovery option. You can either have your recovery details sent to your alternate email address or to your mobile phone. You will need to have set these for your account in order to be able to use them.
If you choose to receive recovery information sent to your phone, you can either receive it via automated call or SMS.
If you don't have recovery information associated with your account, you will be taken to the account retrieval survey.
Enter your verification information. If you selected to receive a verification code over the phone, you will be prompted to enter it. If you had a recovery email sent to your alternate account, click the link in the email you receive.
Create a new password. After entering the code or clicking the link, you will be prompted to create a new Google password. Enter it in twice to confirm it. Click the "Reset Password" button to continue.

HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR ANDROID SMARTPHONE

Android smartphones are found almost everywhere, and they range from low to high end smartphones. All of them will slow down with time; this is why it's important to maintain your smartphone's smoothness by following the few easy-to-do steps mentioned in this article.
Note: The path for the settings in the steps might vary depending on your smartphone model and android version.
Steps

Update your smartphone firmware . The updates fix some bugs, add new features, and other issues that you may not be aware of. Such issues crop up with reasonable frequency, so updating regularly will ensure the optimum performance for your phone.
Reset your Android phone . Resetting erases everything and brings your phone back to its original, "as new" condition. This is a temporary option, because as you use your phone again, it will suffer the same behavior again.
Back up any important information (such as saved passwords in browser) before taking this step.
Check the internal memory space. A low amount of internal memory could be the reason behind any severe lag that your phone is experiencing.

Move your media (pictures, mp3 files, videos, and so forth) to the external memory, usually an SD card.
Some low-end and mid-range smartphones might already have low internal memory space, in which case, moving your files to the SD card won't help that much.
Search the Google Play Store for useful applications. Possible applications that may help include:
A good antivirus application: Scans your phone for any possible viruses and malwares. These usually slow down your phone.

A startup manager: Allows you to stop number of applications from starting up automatically when the phone boots up.
'Juice defender: Gives your phone more battery life by stopping services and applications.
A app cache cleaner (could be automatic, too): Cleans up some cached data from the internal memory.
App2SD: Allows you to move some applications to the SD card (if you have one inserted, and if supported on your phone). This also speeds up the phone.
Uninstall unused applications.

Restart the phone. This is a temporary option, but it works!
Root the phone. Rooting gives you additional options to do with your phone. Although rooting is a risky solution, it is not as risky as it used to be. This might brick your phone (i.e., it will malfunction). In addition, a successful root will void your warranty. However, you can always unroot the phone (and you will restore your warranty, as the manufacturers cannot tell if you rooted your phone before or not). Here's a list of things that you can do after rooting your phone:

Overclocking your phone processor. This will ultimately speed up your phone, but will eat up more battery juice than before.
You can also install a custom ROM . The ROM is basically the version of Android installed on your phone. A custom ROM is not an official one, but some of them are better. While this might solve many of your Android smartphone problems, including lag and having a newer version of Android, it is a very advanced, risky and not a recommended solution , because sometimes the custom ROM might not be stable, or might contain bugs and missing features that are found in the official ROM.
The ability to delete unwanted pre-installed applications. In case you wanted to delete some applications, notice two things here:

Download a backup application, such as
Titanium Backup to back up the application before deleting it (in case you wanted to restore it later).
Be careful not to delete any system application , like the launcher or the status bar.

Rooting also gives you access to more advanced applications, like root call blockers, normal and notification ads blockers and root memory managers . The root memory manager is usually better than the auto task killer application.

HOW TO HARD RESET YOUR ANDROID PHONES

If you’re at your wit’s end with your phone, screaming at it when it takes 10 minutes to start an app, it may be time for a factory reset. A factory reset will erase all of your phone’s data and restore it to the settings that it came with out of the box. Before you throw your phone in the trash, check out this guide.
Method One of Two:
Basic Reset
Open your device’s Settings. The Settings app can have varying icons depending upon on your specific device, and may be also found within the App Tray or by pushing the phone’s dedicated menu button.
Find your Factory Reset option. Depending on your device, the “Factory data reset” feature may be located in one of two sections within the Settings app:
Select the “Privacy” settings, and scroll down to “Factory reset”
Select the “Backup and reset” settings, and scroll down to “Factory reset”
Tap “Reset device” to delete all data and restore your device’s factory settings. The accounts that you are signed into will be displayed on the screen. By default, all your phone’s internal storage will be wiped.
If you want to erase all of the data on your phone’s SD card as well, check the box at the bottom of the screen.
Confirm the process by selecting “Erase everything". This will delete all data and restore back to your device’s factory settings. Your phone will be as if it just came out of the box. [1]
Method Two of Two:
Recovery Reset
Power down your device. Before you begin the reset procedure, you will need to completely power your device off. (If the device is frozen, you can pull the battery out to turn it off.)
Press and hold the recovery buttons. The buttons vary from device to device, so you may need to look up the instructions for your particular phone. You will need to press and hold the buttons for a few seconds. Some of the more common button combinations include:
Volume Up + Home + Power
Volume Down + Power
Home + Power
If none of the above work, do a web search for your phone’s model plus “recovery mode”.
Select Factory Reset. Once the recovery menu opens, you can navigate the menu with the volume buttons. You may need to open the Recovery menu to find the Factory Reset mode. Use the Power button, some models use the camera button, to select your menu options.
You will be asked to confirm the factory reset.
Wait for the restore process to compete. After your phone resets, it will be set back to factory defaults and will be like it just came out of the box.

HOW TO FORMAT A COMPUTER SYSTEM

Formatting a computer involves erasing all of the data on the computer's hard drive, and then reinstalling the operating system so that the computer is restored to factory defaults. This can be useful if your computer is malfunctioning, or you are planning on selling or donating it. Follow this guide to format your Windows 7 or Mac OS X computer.
Method One of Two:
Windows
Backup your data. When you format a computer, you will lose all of your files and data. The programs can’t be backed up; they will need to be reinstalled. Any files—including documents, music, pictures, and videos—that you want to save need to be copied to a backup location.
You can use DVDs, CDs, external hard drives, flash drives, or the cloud, depending on how much data you have to backup.

Set your BIOS to boot from CD. To do this, restart the computer and enter the setup screen when the manufacturer logo appears. The key to do this will be displayed, and varies by manufacturer. The most common keys are F2, F10, F12, and Del.

Once in the BIOS menu, select the Boot menu. Change the order of devices so that your computer boots from CD before booting from the hard drive. Save your changes and exit. Your computer will restart.

If you are installing from a flash drive, then you will need to set the BIOS to boot from removable storage
Begin Setup. If the CD has been inserted and the BIOS is set correctly, you will see a message telling you to “Press any key to boot from CD…” Press a key on the keyboard and the setup process for Windows 7 will launch.
Your system may automatically launch the setup program without asking you to press any key.

Watch the Windows files load. After completion, the Windows 7 logo will appear. No files have been altered on your computer yet. Your data will be deleted in later steps.
Choose your preferences. You will be prompted to confirm your Language, Time & Currency format, and Keyboard or input method. Select the appropriate options for you and click Next.

Click Install Now. Do not click Repair Computer, even if you are repairing a computer by reinstalling Windows. Once clicked, Setup will begin loading the files it needs to continue.

Read and accept the terms. In order to advance, you must indicate that you have read and agree to Microsoft’s terms of use. Be sure to read through it so that you know your rights and limitations as a user.

Choose Custom install. This will allow you to perform a clean installation. Formatting the computer means wiping it of all the data that is on it, so you will be performing a clean installation, so that you will be given the option to erase the disk.

Delete the partition. A window will open asking where you would like to install Windows. In order to perform a clean install, you need to delete the old partition and start with a clean slate. Click “Drive options (advanced).” This will give you the ability to delete and create partitions.
Select the partition of your existing operating system and click the Delete button.

If your hard drive has multiple partitions, be sure to delete the correct one. Any data on a deleted partition is lost for good.

Confirm the deletion process.
Select the Unallocated Space and click Next. There is no need to create a partition before you install Windows 7, this is done automatically.

Wait while Windows installs files. The percentage next to Expanding Windows files will steadily increase. This part of the process can take up to 30 minutes.
Windows will automatically restart your computer when finished.

Setup will launch again, and a message will tell you that Setup is updating registry settings.
Setup will then configure your computer’s services. This happens every time you start Windows, but will happen in the background next time.

A window will open letting you know that Windows is completing the installation. Your computer will restart again when this is complete.

Setup will now load drivers and check video settings. This part does not require any input from you.
Enter your user name and computer name. Your username will be used to log in to the computer and personalize your account. Your computer name is the name that your computer will display on the network.

You can add more users later through the Windows 7 control panel.
Windows will ask you for a password. This is optional but highly recommended, especially if the computer will be accessible by users other than yourself. If you’d rather not have a password, leave the fields blank and click Next.
Enter your product key. This is the 25-character key that came with your copy of Windows. Check the “Automatically activate Windows when I’m online” to have Windows automatically verify your key the next time it is connected to the internet.

Select your Windows Update option. To make sure that your copy of Windows runs securely and stably, it is highly recommended that you choose one of the first two options. The first option will install all updates automatically, the second option will prompt you when important updates are available.

Select your date and time. These should be correct already as they are linked to your BIOS, but you can change them now if they are not. Check the box if your area observes Daylight Savings.

Select network preferences. If your computer is connected to a network, you will be given an option to identify that network. Most users will select Home or Work network. If your computer is being used in a public place, select Public network. Mobile broadband users should always select Public network.

Windows will now attempt to connect your computer to the network. This process is completely automated.
Explore your desktop. After one final loading screen, your new Windows 7 desktop will appear. Installation is now complete.

TIPS ON HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR MOBILE PHONE

Your smartphone is more precious than your wallet, your keys and in some cases, your actual computer when it comes to sensitive information - but we all have that nagging guilt that we don't do enough to protect our devices beyond perhaps having a four digit pass code.
Thankfully we are here to help with some top-level tips to help make your phone more secure, protecting those all important messages and images that you don't want falling into the wrong hands.
With around 314 mobiles stolen a day on the streets of London, the risk of things getting out is extremely high.
Of course if you're looking to keep your phone safe from international spies, or snooping networks, you can always check out the BlackPhone... but if you're just the average smartphone user who wants to be a little safer, follow some of our tips below.
1. Update your software
Whether you are running iOS, Android or Windows Phone we will always advise you to grab the latest version of the OS available. This can be a little difficult with Android updates often taking a little while to go through manufacturer and network testing but is well worth it.
Part of the reason we suggest grabbing the latest OS is because it comes with all the added bonuses whether it's the Control Center of iOS7 or the clear bars on Android KitKat, but also because a lot of security loopholes will have been closed.
These updates don't just pop up in major iterations either; Apple is currently pushing out iOS 7.0.6 in order to close a problem associated with using Apple devices on an unsecured network.
Most manufacturers allow you to set your phone to check for updates automatically, so always make sure this box is ticked.
2. Use a secure lock screen
It seems almost nonsensical in this day and age to not have a basic password on your lock screen, even if it is a basic one. One of the first things we'd suggest is to navigate into your device's security settings and enable a pass lock.
There are obvious benefits to having even a basic lock, but whilst face lock of Android might seem fun it isn't the most secure system out there, with many Google devices rating the effectiveness of each security system so you can make an informed choice.
Pattern unlocks and pins are some of the most secure but if you can handle the hassle we'd always suggest a full alphanumeric password. Also ensure that any boxes that say "make passwords visible" are also unticked.
If you want to take it one step further then we'd also recommend changing your pass code regularly in case someone spots what you've typed in over your shoulder.
3. Install antivirus software
One of the biggest threats that could see data leaked is the less-than-humble virus. The problem isn't as widespread as on desktop computers, and if you don't download dodgy software chances are that within a 2 year contract you won't come across anything malicious, but there is still a credible threat out there.
The problem appears to be less hazardous for iPhones thanks to Apple's strict controlling of the App store. The open source nature of Android makes it a lot more vulnerable, as malicious apps can be sideloaded onto the device without being checked by Google. In both cases this is something that can be countered through the use of mobile Antivirus software.
The likes of McAfee, AVG and Lookout grace both the iOS App Store and the Google Play store for added security, but obviously be careful of any apps that seem a little suspicious.
If you're really worried check out the manufacturer's website as most will come with a link to their mobile app.
4. Disable apps from untrusted sources and don't root or jailbreak
Whilst it can often be a nice idea to download and install apps that aren't found on the App Store or Google Play Store, these apps tend to be the ones that are less secure. Google, Apple and Microsoft, as well as the likes of BlackBerry, keep tabs on the apps that are on their app portals.
This means apps that contain malicious code are likely to have been removed before you install them.
Rooting your Android phone or jailbreaking your iPhone can also prove really dangerous, especially if you don't know what you're doing. This is because it breaks down your OS and provides you access to the basic code within and if you can get access, malicious code has a much easier route to making changes too.
If you're more familiar with the world of rooting and jailbreaking then you'll have taken measures to ensure the security of your device - so make sure you're certain you know what you want when altering your handset.
5. Use lock code apps and vaults
One thing that can be particularly important for protecting vital messages and pictures is to add a second layer of security. If you've got a pass code that somehow manages to get into the wrong hands then all your data could potentially be at risk.
With another app you can then add another layer of security by protecting apps with a second code. Vault apps also allow you to be safe by storing all the files that you want to secure within a dedicated area of your device or on an SD card, as well as being able to wipe the data after unsuccessful log in attempts.
Samsung's new Galaxy S5 features a fingerprint scanner to hide certain parts of your phone too - it might not be the easiest thing to use, but at least you can be doubly secure that nobody can get into the places you want hidden.
